Indications

Biolept (Vigabatrin) is indicated for the treatment of refractory epileptic seizures in patients with epilepsy. It is primarily used in patients who have not responded adequately to other antiepileptic treatments. Vigabatrin acts as an inhibitor of the GABA transaminase enzyme, which increases the concentration of GABA in the brain, helping to control seizures. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in the control of focal seizures and in some cases of generalized epilepsy. It is important that treatment is supervised by a neurologist.

Composition

Each Biolept tablet contains 500 mg of vigabatrin as the active ingredient. In addition, it contains excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive components that facilitate tablet formulation.

Contraindications

Biolept is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vigabatrin or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use should also be avoided in patients with a history of peripheral neuropathy. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of depression or psychiatric disorders, as vigabatrin may worsen these conditions. Regular medical monitoring is recommended to assess for adverse effects, including the possibility of visual deterioration. Administration should be discontinued if symptoms of vision loss occur.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
