Indications
Biodan (Phenytoin Sodium) is indicated for the treatment of seizures, including partial and generalized seizures in patients with epilepsy. It is also used in the management of cardiac arrhythmias, specifically in the control of ventricular tachycardias. Phenytoin works by stabilizing neuronal membranes and reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It is important to monitor clinical response and adjust the dose according to the individual needs of the patient.
Composition
Each Biodan tablet contains 100 mg of phenytoin sodium as the active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to phenytoin or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered in cases of atrioventricular block or in patients with a history of phenytoin toxicity.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering phenytoin to patients with a history of liver disease, as drug metabolism may be affected. Likewise, regular monitoring of plasma phenytoin levels is essential, especially during the initiation of treatment or changes in dosage. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting treatment, as phenytoin can have teratogenic effects and affect the infant.
Storage
Keep the product in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. The recommended storage temperature is between 15°C and 30°C.
