Indications
Biktarvy is indicated for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older weighing at least 35 kg. It is a treatment regimen that combines three antiretrovirals in a single tablet, which facilitates treatment adherence. This medication is used as part of a combined treatment regimen to control HIV replication and improve patients' quality of life by reducing the viral load.
Composition
Each Biktarvy tablet contains:
- Bictegravir: 50 mg
- Emtricitabine: 200 mg
- Tenofovir alafenamide: 25 mg
Contraindications
Biktarvy is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment (Glomerular Filtration Rate < 15 mL/min) or who require dialysis. Its use is also contraindicated in combination with certain medications that may interact negatively.
Precautions
Renal function should be monitored before and during treatment with Biktarvy. In addition, tests to detect the presence of HIV and viral load should be performed periodically. Patients should be evaluated for the possible appearance of adverse effects and the development of treatment resistance. In case of hypersensitivity symptoms, treatment should be discontinued immediately.
Storage
Store in its original container, at room temperature (between 15 and 30 °C) and protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
