Indications
Bateral (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, and some gastrointestinal infections. It is also used in the prevention of Pneumocystis jirovecii infections in immunocompromised patients. This medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid in bacteria, which is essential for their growth and reproduction.
Composition
Each 5 mL of solution contains: Trimethoprim 40 mg and Sulfamethoxazole 200 mg.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components, as well as in those with a history of severe adverse reactions to sulfonamides. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal failure or during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of hematological diseases, as well as in those with dehydration or renal dysfunction. It is important to monitor renal function and blood counts during prolonged treatment. It is also recommended to assess use in patients who are receiving anticoagulants, as it may increase the risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Protect from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
