Indications

Bactiver is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, and certain gastrointestinal infections. This medication combines two antibiotics that act synergistically to inhibit folic acid synthesis in bacteria, leading to the cessation of their growth and reproduction. It is commonly used to treat infections caused by organisms such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, among others. It is important to perform a culture and sensitivity test to ensure treatment efficacy in cases of complicated infections.

Composition

Each Bactiver tablet contains: 400 mg of sulfamethoxazole and 80 mg of trimethoprim, in addition to the excipients necessary for the drug's formulation.

Contraindications

Bactiver is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or trimethoprim, in those with severe renal insufficiency, and in pregnant or lactating women, unless the physician deems it absolutely necessary. Its use should also be avoided in patients with a history of megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Bactiver to patients with a history of liver disease, renal insufficiency, or those with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Adequate monitoring of renal function during treatment, as well as signs of adverse reactions, is recommended. It is also suggested to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment due to the possibility of adverse reactions.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
