Indications
Bacat 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as well as for reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with a history of coronary artery disease. Atorvastatin acts by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver and increases LDL-C uptake by hepatic receptors. This medication is especially useful in patients requiring a reduction in LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and an increase in HDL cholesterol levels.
Composition
Each Bacat tablet contains 20 mg of atorvastatin, as well as excipients such as lactose, corn starch, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
Bacat is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the formula's components. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or those with persistent elevations of hepatic transaminases, as well as in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, or those receiving other medications that may interact with atorvastatin. It is advisable to perform liver function tests before starting treatment and during its use. Additionally, it is suggested to monitor creatine kinase levels in patients with unusual muscle symptoms.
Storage
Store Bacat in its original container, tightly closed and protected from light and moisture, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
