Indications

Azilect is indicated as a treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease, either as monotherapy or in combination with other anti-Parkinsonian medications. Its use is particularly relevant in patients who experience fluctuations in the control of motor symptoms. Rasagiline, the active ingredient in Azilect, acts as a selective monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) inhibitor, which helps to increase dopamine concentration in the brain, thereby improving motor function and the quality of life of patients. Azilect has also been shown to possess neuroprotective properties that may be beneficial in the progression of the disease.

Composition

Each Azilect tablet contains 1 mg of rasagiline as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate the formulation and absorption of the medication.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to rasagiline or any component of the formulation. It should not be administered to patients who are receiving treatment with other monoamine oxidase inhibitors, antidepressants, or medications containing tryptophan.
