Indications
Arfla is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by bacteria sensitive to rifaximin. It is specifically used for the treatment of traveler's diarrhea due to non-invasive E. coli, as well as for reducing the recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy episodes in patients with chronic liver disease. Rifaximin acts by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis, which reduces the multiplication of pathogenic bacteria in the intestine.
Composition
Each Arfla 200 mg tablet contains:
- Rifaximin: 200 mg
Contraindications
Arfla is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to rifaximin or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with intestinal obstruction or in those with diarrhea caused by invasive bacterial infections such as Salmonella or Shigella.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of severe gastrointestinal diseases. Prolonged use of the medication without medical supervision is not recommended. If symptoms persist for more than 24 to 48 hours, the patient should be re-evaluated. It should also be noted that rifaximin may alter normal intestinal flora, which could lead to an overgrowth of non-sensitive microorganisms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
