Indications

Apthon (Cinacalcet) is indicated for the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism in adult patients who are not candidates for surgery, as well as in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with chronic kidney disease who are undergoing dialysis. It is also used in the management of hypocalcemia in patients with hypoparathyroidism syndrome. The mechanism of action of Cinacalcet consists of increasing the sensitivity of calcium receptors in the parathyroid glands, which results in a decrease in parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion and, therefore, a reduction in serum calcium levels.

Composition

Each Apthon tablet contains 30 mg of Cinacalcet as the active ingredient. Excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

Apthon is contraindicated in patients with hypocalcemia, as well as in those with known hypersensitivity to Cinacalcet or any of the excipients in the formula. Caution should be exercised in its use in patients with a history of seizures.

Precautions

It is important to monitor serum calcium levels in patients receiving Apthon treatment, especially at the beginning of treatment and after dose changes. Dose adjustments should be considered in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Its use in pregnant and lactating women should be carefully evaluated, and it should only be administered if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus or infant.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
