Indications
Amlodipine is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and angina pectoris, both stable and variant. This medication acts as a calcium channel blocker, which allows the relaxation of blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow to the heart. It is also used in the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients, contributing to the reduction of cardiovascular mortality.
Composition
Each Amlodipine tablet contains 5 mg of amlodipine (as amlodipine besylate) as the active ingredient. Additionally, it includes excipients such as lactose, starch, and magnesium stearate, which facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amlodipine or any of the excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, or decompensated heart failure. Likewise, its use is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless otherwise indicated by the physician.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with hepatic insufficiency, as the dose may require adjustment. It is important to monitor patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, as well as those with renal insufficiency. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol intake during treatment, as it may potentiate the effects of the medication.
Storage
Store the medication in a cool, dry place, protected from direct light and out of reach of children. The storage temperature should not exceed 30°C.
