Indications
Aldomet is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension. This medication acts as an antihypertensive agent, reducing blood pressure by decreasing vascular tone. It is especially useful in patients who do not respond adequately to other antihypertensive treatments. It can also be used in the management of hypertension during pregnancy, although a risk-benefit assessment should be considered in each particular case.
Composition
Each Aldomet tablet contains 250 mg of methyldopa as the active ingredient. In addition, excipients are included for the proper formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Aldomet is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to methyldopa or any of the components of the formula. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of hepatitis or active liver disease, as well as in those with severe depression.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Aldomet to patients with cardiovascular diseases, as it can cause a significant reduction in blood pressure. In addition, it is recommended to monitor liver function and hemoglobin during treatment, due to the risk of hepatitis or anemia. It is important to inform the doctor about any other medication the patient is taking to avoid adverse interactions.
Storage
Store Aldomet at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and out of the reach of children. Do not use the medication after the expiry date indicated on the package.
