Indications
Folic acid is a B-complex vitamin primarily used to prevent and treat folate deficiency. This medication is essential in preventing neural tube defects during pregnancy, and its use is recommended for women planning to become pregnant or who are in the early stages of pregnancy. Additionally, folic acid may be indicated in cases of megaloblastic anemia, where an additional supply of this vitamin is required. Its use is also important in the recovery of patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery or who suffer from nutrient malabsorption.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Folic Acid 5 mg.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to folic acid or any of the components of the formula. Likewise, its use is not recommended in cases of anemia not related to folate deficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergic reactions to B-complex vitamins. It is important to monitor vitamin B12 levels in patients receiving folic acid, as high intake can mask a deficiency of this vitamin. Furthermore, a doctor should be consulted before starting treatment in cases of severe liver or kidney disease.
