Indications
Maxitrol Eye Drops are indicated for the treatment of ocular infections and inflammatory conditions of the eyes that require the combination of an antibiotic and a corticosteroid. It is used in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, and other ocular conditions that may benefit from the combined action of neomycin and polymyxin B, along with the anti-inflammatory effects of dexamethasone. Its use is recommended in situations where there is a clear need to control both infection and ocular inflammation.
Composition
Each mL of Maxitrol Eye Drops contains:
- Neomycin (3500 Units)
- Polymyxin B (6000 Units)
- Dexamethasone (1 mg)
Contraindications
Maxitrol Eye Drops are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in viral eye infections, such as herpes simplex, nor in fungal or tuberculous infections of the eye. It is also contraindicated in patients with tympanic membrane perforation or with a history of aminoglycoside toxicity.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with glaucoma, as prolonged use of corticosteroids can increase intraocular pressure. Clinical monitoring of the patient during treatment is also recommended to avoid the development of bacterial resistance or adverse effects related to corticosteroid use. Prolonged use of the product without medical supervision is not recommended.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
