Indications
Lomotil is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. It is used to reduce the frequency and urgency of bowel movements in patients with diarrhea. This medication works by decreasing intestinal motility, which allows for greater absorption of fluids and electrolytes, thus helping to normalize bowel movements. In addition, it can be useful in the management of diarrhea associated with infections, as well as in cases of non-infectious diarrhea. It is important that the use of Lomotil be part of a comprehensive approach that includes medical evaluation and treatment of the underlying cause of diarrhea.
Composition
Each Lomotil tablet contains 2 mg of loperamide as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients that facilitate the formulation and stability of the medication.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to loperamide or any component of the formulation. It should not be administered in cases of diarrhea caused by bacterial infections or toxins, as well as in patients with ulcerative colitis or enterocolitis. Likewise, it is contraindicated in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome who present signs of intestinal obstruction.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Lomotil to patients with liver or kidney disease, as there may be an increase in the concentration of the medication in the body. Furthermore, it is essential to monitor the patient's progress to prevent the complication of diarrhea. Its use is not recommended in children under 2 years of age. If no improvement is observed within 48 hours, a doctor should be consulted.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children.
