Indications
Levemir Flexpen is indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents, and children from 2 years of age. This medication is used for the control of blood glucose levels in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Its administration is recommended in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, according to the individual needs of the patient. Insulin Detemir provides a prolonged effect, allowing for more stable glycemic control throughout the day and night. It is essential to adjust the insulin dose according to the eating regimen, physical activity, and metabolic needs of the patient.
Composition
Each mL of Levemir Flexpen contains 100 units of insulin Detemir, as well as excipients such as hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Levemir is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to insulin Detemir or any of the excipients present in the formulation. Furthermore, it should not be used in cases of diabetic ketoacidosis without adequate administration of rapid-acting insulin.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using Levemir in patients with kidney or liver diseases, as well as in those with a history of allergic reactions to insulins. It is important to monitor blood glucose levels to prevent episodes of hypoglycemia. Patients should be educated about the symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and the importance of adherence to treatment.
Storage
Levemir Flexpen should be stored in refrigeration between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the product can be stored at room temperature (not exceeding 30 °C) and should be used within a period of 6 weeks.
