Indications
Levemir is indicated for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents, and children from 2 years of age. This medication is used for blood glucose control, providing a prolonged action effect that helps maintain adequate glucose levels for 24 hours. Levemir can be administered in combination with rapid-acting insulins or oral anti-diabetics, depending on the patient's needs and medical recommendation. It is essential that treatment with Levemir is adjusted to the individual needs of the patient, based on blood glucose results and other clinical parameters.
Composition
Each Levemir pen contains 100 units of insulin detemir per milliliter. It also contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration.
Contraindications
Levemir is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin detemir or to any of the excipients of the formulation. It should not be used in episodes of hypoglycemia or in conditions of severe illness that compromise the absorption or utilization of insulin.
Precautions
It is important to monitor blood glucose levels regularly during treatment with Levemir. Patients should be instructed on how to recognize and treat episodes of hypoglycemia. Special care should be taken in patients with kidney or liver disease, as well as in those who are being treated with other medications that may affect glycemic control. A dose adjustment is recommended based on the individual patient's response.
Storage
Levemir should be stored in the refrigerator between 2 °C and 8 °C. Once opened, the medication can be stored at room temperature (not exceeding 30 °C) for a maximum of 6 weeks. Keep out of reach of children.
