Indications
Dengvaxia is indicated for the active immunization of individuals aged 9 to 45 years who have previously had dengue and reside in endemic areas. Vaccination aims to reduce the incidence of dengue and severe forms of the disease. Dengvaxia administration is recommended in a three-dose schedule, given at six-month intervals.
It is important to note that the vaccine should not be administered to people who have not previously been infected with the dengue virus, as it could increase the risk of developing severe forms of the disease if they are exposed to the virus in the future.
Composition
Dengvaxia contains a formulation of attenuated viruses from the four dengue serotypes (DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4). Each 0.5 mL dose provides specific antigens that stimulate an immune response in the body.
Contraindications
This product is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the vaccine components. It is not recommended for individuals who have had severe dengue or who have an immunosuppressive disease, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Dengvaxia to patients with conditions that may compromise their immune response. A prior medical evaluation is essential to ensure that the patient meets the eligibility criteria for vaccination. In addition, patients should be informed about the importance of continuing dengue prevention measures, such as using repellents and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
Storage
Dengvaxia should be stored in refrigeration at a temperature of 2 to 8 °C. It should not be frozen. It is important to protect it from light and keep it out of the reach of children.
