Indications
Augmentin ES Suspension is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is used in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, such as pharyngitis, sinusitis, otitis media, and pneumonia. It is also indicated for urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as dental infections. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate enhances antibacterial activity, making this medication an effective option against beta-lactamase producing bacteria.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains 600 mg of amoxicillin and 42.9 mg of clavulanate, in potassium form. Excipients include: xanthan gum, sorbitol, flavoring, and purified water.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanate, or other penicillin-group antibiotics. It should not be administered in cases of severe hepatic insufficiency or in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice associated with amoxicillin use.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease. It is important to monitor patients who develop diarrhea during treatment, as it could be indicative of pseudomembranous colitis. Prolonged use may lead to superinfection by non-susceptible microorganisms.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
