Indications
Ativan (Lorazepam) is indicated for the treatment of anxiety disorders, as well as for the short-term management of anxiety associated with depression. It is also used as pre-medication in surgical and diagnostic procedures to reduce anxiety and facilitate sedation. Lorazepam acts on the central nervous system, producing sedative, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant effects, making it an effective option for managing acute episodes of anxiety and related disorders.
Composition
Each Ativan tablet contains 1 mg of Lorazepam as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
Ativan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Lorazepam or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with sleep apnea syndrome, severe respiratory failure, or those with a history of substance abuse. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of depression or suicide, as well as in those with hepatic or renal insufficiency. It is important to monitor patients for the possibility of dependence, especially during prolonged treatments. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment and it should not be discontinued abruptly, as this may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, away from direct light and out of the reach of children. Avoid storage in humid places, such as bathrooms, to ensure the stability of the medication.
