Indications
Aranesp (Darbepoetin Alfa) is indicated for the treatment of anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease, as well as in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This medication works by stimulating the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow, which is crucial for increasing hemoglobin levels and improving the patient's quality of life. It is also used in patients who have experienced significant blood loss, contributing to the recovery of adequate hemoglobin levels.
Composition
Each Aranesp syringe contains 40 mcg of darbepoetin alfa, an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent. It also includes excipients such as sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection, which are essential for the stability and administration of the drug.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to darbepoetin alfa or any of the components of the formula. It should also be avoided in those with uncontrolled hypertension or in patients who require treatment for iron-deficiency anemia, as darbepoetin alfa does not replace the iron necessary for erythropoiesis.
Precautions
Frequent monitoring of hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, as well as blood pressure, is required in patients receiving this treatment. It is important to consider pre-existing cardiovascular conditions, as the use of Aranesp may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events in some patients. Furthermore, during treatment, iron levels should be evaluated and, if necessary, supplemented to ensure the drug's efficacy.
Storage
Aranesp should be stored refrigerated between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light. Once opened, the product can be used within a specific period, which should be consulted in the medication leaflet.
