Indications
Tums is indicated for the treatment of gastric hyperacidity, which may manifest as heartburn or digestive discomfort. Its action is to relieve symptoms associated with gastritis, indigestion, and gastroesophageal reflux. Calcium carbonate works by neutralizing excess acid in the stomach, providing fast and effective relief. It is commonly used as a supplement in the therapy of peptic ulcers and as a preventive measure in situations of acid overload, as well as in cases of osteopathies that require additional calcium intake.
Composition
Each Tums tablet contains 750 mg of calcium carbonate as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate the product's presentation and chewability.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to calcium carbonate or any of the formula's components. It should not be administered to individuals with hypercalcemia, kidney stones, or conditions that predispose to stone formation, as well as in cases of severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Tums should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases or calcium metabolism disorders. It is important to avoid prolonged use without medical supervision, as it can cause adverse effects such as metabolic alkalosis. Furthermore, the intake of other medications that may interact with calcium carbonate, such as certain antibiotics and diuretics, should be considered.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
