Indications
Tapazol (thiamazole) is indicated in the treatment of hyperthyroidism, which is a condition characterized by excessive production of thyroid hormones. It is primarily used in patients with Graves' disease, as well as in cases of toxic goiters. The medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormones in the thyroid gland, which can help normalize hormone levels and alleviate symptoms associated with this condition, such as weight loss, tachycardia, nervousness, and excessive sweating. Regular monitoring of thyroid function during treatment is important to assess efficacy and adjust the dose if necessary. In addition, Tapazol can be used as a pre-surgical preparation for thyroid surgery in hyperthyroid patients.
Composition
Each tablet of Tapazol contains 5 mg of thiamazole as the active ingredient. Excipients include: lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
Tapazol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to thiamazole or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in cases of severe liver disease and in patients with a history of agranulocytosis induced by other medications. It should not be administered during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless the potential benefit justifies the risk.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with liver disease, anemia, or those receiving concomitant treatment with other medications that may affect hematological function. Regular blood tests are important to monitor for the possible occurrence of agranulocytosis and other adverse effects.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
