Indications
Ozempic (semaglutide) is indicated for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. Additionally, it can be used in patients with established cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events. This medication acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which promotes insulin secretion, reduces glucagon secretion, and delays gastric emptying, thereby contributing to lower blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each ml of Ozempic contains 1.34 mg of semaglutide. Excipients are: sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid and water for injection.
Contraindications
Ozempic is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of acute pancreatitis and in those with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Precautions
Precautions should be taken in patients with a history of pancreatitis, gastrointestinal problems, or kidney disease. It is important to monitor the patient for signs of pancreatitis and adjust the dose according to individual needs. Caution is recommended in patients with a history of thyroid disease, as an increased incidence of thyroid tumors has been observed in animal studies.
Storage
Store in a refrigerator between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the pen can be stored at room temperature (below 30 °C) and must be used within 56 days. Keep out of reach of children.
