Indications
Luvik 2 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult patients, in combination with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with non-pharmacological measures alone. It can be administered as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin, depending on the patient's needs.
Glimepiride acts by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells and, in turn, increases tissue sensitivity to insulin, which contributes to the reduction of blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each Luvik tablet contains 2 mg of glimepiride as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or any component of the formula. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, or in those with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with liver or kidney diseases, as well as in those who experience episodes of hypoglycemia. It is important to regularly monitor blood glucose levels and adjust the dose as needed. Likewise, it is recommended to monitor patients over 65 years of age, as they may be more susceptible to side effects.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
