Indications
Lamictal (lamotrigine) is indicated for the treatment of patients with epilepsy. It is used as adjunctive therapy in partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It is also indicated in the treatment of bipolar affective disorder, to prevent depressive episodes in patients with this diagnosis. The efficacy of lamotrigine has been demonstrated in clinical studies, where a significant reduction in seizure frequency was observed in individuals with refractory epilepsy.
Composition
Each Lamictal tablet contains 25 mg of lamotrigine as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate the formulation and stability of the medication.
Contraindications
Lamictal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lamotrigine or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe skin reactions associated with lamotrigine use or in those who are being treated with other anticonvulsants that may increase the risk of adverse effects.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering lamotrigine to patients with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as in those taking other medications that may interact with lamotrigine. Regular medical follow-up is important to adjust the dose and monitor for possible adverse effects, especially during the first months of treatment.
Storage
Lamictal should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
