Indications
Keppra XR is indicated for the treatment of partial and generalized epileptic seizures in adults and children aged 4 years and older with epilepsy. This medication is used as adjunctive therapy in patients who have not achieved adequate seizure control with other antiepileptic drugs. Additionally, its use may be considered in some cases for the treatment of myoclonic seizures in patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. It is important that treatment be supervised by a physician and adjusted according to the patient's response.
Composition
Each Keppra XR tablet contains 500 mg of levetiracetam as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, talc, among other inactive components that facilitate the formulation and stability of the medicine.
Contraindications
Keppra XR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of kidney problems, as the dosage may require adjustment in these cases.
Precautions
Patients are advised to inform their doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, as well as any other medications they are taking, to avoid interactions. Care should be taken in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders, as the use of levetiracetam may be associated with an increased incidence of aggressive behavior, depression, and suicidal thoughts. It is important to monitor patients during treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
