Indications

Keppra (levetiracetam) is indicated for the treatment of patients with epilepsy, for the control of partial onset seizures, generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and myoclonic seizures. This medication is used in combination with other antiepileptics in adults and children over 4 years of age. Keppra works by modulating neurotransmitter release and decreasing neuronal excitability, which contributes to reducing the frequency of seizures. It is important that treatment is supervised by a specialized physician, who will evaluate the patient's response and adjust the dose as needed.

Composition

Each Keppra tablet contains 500 mg of levetiracetam as the active ingredient. Inactive ingredients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, talc, magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Keppra is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or any of the excipients in the formulation. Additionally, caution should be exercised in those with a history of severe psychiatric disorders, as changes in behavior and mood have been reported in some patients treated with levetiracetam.

Precautions

It is recommended to evaluate the patient's renal function before starting Keppra treatment, as drug elimination may be affected in cases of renal insufficiency. Likewise, care should be taken when withdrawing treatment, as abrupt discontinuation can precipitate epileptic seizures. During treatment, one should be alert for the appearance of psychiatric and neurological symptoms, and a doctor should be consulted if significant changes in behavior occur.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
