Indications
Fosamax is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men, as well as for fracture prevention. This medication helps increase bone mineral density and reduce the risk of vertebral and hip fractures. It is also used in the treatment of Paget's disease of bone in adults. Fosamax is recommended for patients at risk of fractures due to bone mass loss.
Composition
Each Fosamax tablet contains 70 mg of alendronic acid, as well as excipients necessary for the medication's formulation.
Contraindications
Fosamax is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to alendronic acid or any of the product's excipients. It should not be administered in cases of hypocalcemia or in patients with esophageal disorders that may make swallowing the tablet difficult. Likewise, it is contraindicated in individuals with severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of gastric or duodenal ulcers, as well as those with kidney problems. It is important to ensure that the patient receives sufficient calcium and vitamin D during treatment. Patients should be advised about the need to remain upright for at least 30 minutes after administration to avoid esophageal irritation.
Storage
Fosamax should be stored in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, away from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
