Indications
Dimefor is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used as oral therapy in patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control through diet and exercise. It may also be indicated in combination with other oral antidiabetic medications or insulin to improve glycemic control. Metformin helps reduce glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, which promotes glucose utilization by the body's cells.
Composition
Each Dimefor tablet contains 1000 mg of metformin as an active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other components that facilitate its formulation.
Contraindications
Dimefor is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metformin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in cases of severe renal insufficiency, acute or chronic diseases that may compromise renal function, lactic acidosis, severe dehydration states, or in patients with unstable cardiovascular diseases, among others.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, mild to moderate renal insufficiency, or those who are under treatment with other medications that may affect renal function. It is important to monitor renal function before starting treatment and periodically during its use. Additionally, the risk of lactic acidosis should be considered, especially in situations of hypoxia or dehydration.
