Indications
Vickrol is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to clarithromycin. These infections may include, among others, the following:
- Upper respiratory tract infections, such as sinusitis and pharyngitis.
- Lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia caused by susceptible strains.
- Skin and soft tissue infections.
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer.
Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, leading to the death of bacteria and resolution of the infection.
Composition
Each Vickrol tablet contains 500 mg of clarithromycin as the active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min) who are receiving methadone.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver or heart disease, as well as in those taking other medications that may interact with clarithromycin, such as oral anticoagulants. It is advisable to monitor liver function in patients receiving prolonged treatment.
Storage
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, in a dry place and out of reach of children.
