Indications

Uniquin 500 mg is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in various locations, including:

  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections, such as community-acquired pneumonia and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
  • Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Intra-abdominal infections, as part of a combination therapy.
  • Prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients.

Levofloxacin acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase, which results in the disruption of bacterial DNA replication and cell death.

Composition

Each Uniquin tablet contains:

  • Levofloxacin (as levofloxacin hemihydrate) 500 mg.

Excipients: Lactose, starch, talc, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Uniquin should not be administered in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
  • Patients with a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use.
  • Pregnancy and lactation.
  • Patients under 18 years of age.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of central nervous system disorders, renal insufficiency, and in those who are being treated with other medications that may prolong the QT interval.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and away from direct light.
