Indications

Topiramate is indicated as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial epileptic seizures in patients over 2 years of age, as well as for the treatment of generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and children over 2 years of age. It is also used for migraine prophylaxis in adults. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of excitatory neuronal activity and modulation of sodium channels, which contributes to its efficacy in controlling epileptic seizures and reducing the frequency of migraine episodes.

Composition

Each tablet contains: Topiramate 100 mg. Excipients: lactose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Topiramate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Its use is not recommended in pregnant women, unless the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of metabolic acidosis or severe kidney problems.

Precautions

Special caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney disease, as it may increase the risk of kidney stones. Likewise, it is important to monitor patients for possible adverse effects related to the central nervous system, such as drowsiness, dizziness, or concentration problems. Dose adjustment is recommended in patients with hepatic insufficiency.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
