Indications
Topiramate is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial and generalized seizures in adults and children over 2 years of age with epilepsy. It is also used in the treatment of migraine in adults. The efficacy of topiramate has been well documented in various clinical studies, where a reduction in the frequency and severity of seizures has been observed. Furthermore, its use in migraine prophylaxis has been shown to decrease the frequency of episodes in patients prone to this type of headache.
Composition
Each Topiramate tablet contains 100 mg of topiramate as the active ingredient. Excipients are: lactose monohydrate, starch, microcrystalline cellulose and other inactive components.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to topiramate or any of the excipients. Its use is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women without adequate medical supervision. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of metabolic acidosis or severe kidney problems.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney stones, liver disease, or who are receiving medications that affect kidney function. Careful monitoring is recommended in patients with mood disorders, as topiramate can affect mental status and cause depression or suicidal thoughts. It is important to adjust the dose in elderly patients or those with impaired renal function.
Storage
Store in its original container at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
