Indications

Levofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections that are susceptible to this antibiotic. It is commonly used in the treatment of:

  • Lower respiratory tract infections, including community-acquired pneumonia.
  • Urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis and cystitis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Bone and joint infections.
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections.

The use of levofloxacin should be based on the identification of the pathogen and its susceptibility to this antibiotic. If not possible, the severity of the infection and the patient's clinical evaluation should be considered.

Composition

Each tablet contains:

  • Levofloxacin: 500 mg
  • Excipients: Lactose monohydrate, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Levofloxacin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other fluoroquinolone antibiotics, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of tendinopathy related to fluoroquinolone use.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when used in patients with a history of seizure disorders, kidney damage, or in patients over 60 years of age. Additionally, it is important to avoid concomitant use with medications that may prolong the QT interval.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
