Indications
Itraconazole is indicated in the treatment of systemic and superficial fungal infections. It is used for the treatment of aspergillosis, candidiasis, and dermatophytosis. It is effective in cases of onychomycosis and ringworm, as well as in fungal infections that affect immunocompromised patients. The efficacy of itraconazole has been demonstrated in clinical trials, where an adequate therapeutic response has been observed in fungal infections resistant to other treatments. It is recommended to evaluate the patient's medical history and make an accurate diagnosis before starting treatment.
Composition
Each capsule contains 100 mg of itraconazole and excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to itraconazole or any of the excipients. It should not be administered to patients with congestive heart failure or to those who are receiving treatments that may induce cardiac arrhythmias. In addition, its use during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully evaluated, considering the risks and benefits.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with liver diseases, as itraconazole is mainly metabolized in the liver. It is important to monitor liver function during treatment. Care should also be taken in patients receiving other medications that may interact with itraconazole, as it may increase or decrease the serum levels of other drugs. Patients should be informed about the possibility of adverse effects and the need to report any unusual symptoms.
