Indications

Irbesartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which results in vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. Additionally, it is used in patients with diabetic nephropathy in those with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, to improve kidney function.

The use of Irbesartan may be considered as part of a combined therapy with other antihypertensives, in case monotherapy does not achieve adequate blood pressure control. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function during treatment is important.

Composition

Each Irbesartan tablet contains 150 mg of irbesartan as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation of the medicine.

Contraindications

Irbesartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to irbesartan or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Likewise, it is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Irbesartan to patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or those with compromised kidney function. It is recommended to monitor kidney function and electrolytes, especially at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose. Treatment should not be abruptly discontinued without the supervision of the treating physician.

Store the product in its original packaging, at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
