Indications
Hyoscine is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal spasms, as well as in disorders related to the central nervous system that present with spastic symptoms. It is used in the management of abdominal cramps, especially in cases of irritable bowel syndrome. It can also be used in preparation for certain diagnostic or surgical procedures where a reduction in gastrointestinal motility is required. Furthermore, its use is relevant in the treatment of movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, and in conditions of severe stomach acidity. Hyoscine acts as an anticholinergic, blocking the action of acetylcholine in the nervous system, resulting in the relaxation of smooth muscles.
Composition
Each 20 mg/1 ml Hyoscine ampoule contains:
- Hyoscine (hyoscine butylbromide) 20 mg
- Excipients: sodium chloride, water for injection.
Contraindications
Hyoscine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to hyoscine or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with closed-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, or conditions involving urinary retention. Additionally, its use in patients with cardiovascular diseases should be supervised.
Precautions
It is important to use Hyoscine with caution in elderly patients, who may have a higher risk of adverse effects. Care should be taken in patients with a history of intestinal obstruction, as it may aggravate the condition. Likewise, its use in pregnant and breastfeeding women should be considered, with a careful evaluation of the benefits and risks.
