Indications
Atorvastatin is indicated as an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (type IIa) and mixed dyslipidemia (type IIb). It is also used to increase HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels in patients with dyslipidemia. Furthermore, it is indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients, including those with established coronary heart disease or additional risk factors.
Composition
Each tablet contains 20 mg of atorvastatin as the active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Atorvastatin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula, active liver disease, persistent elevations of transaminases, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, and in those using other lipid-lowering medications. Liver function tests are recommended before starting treatment and periodically during its use. Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as there may be interactions with atorvastatin.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
