Indications
Atorvastatin is indicated for the treatment of dyslipidemia, including the reduction of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. It is also indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients, such as those with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or established coronary artery disease. Its use is crucial in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with risk factors.
Composition
Each 20 mg atorvastatin tablet contains:
- Atorvastatin (as calcium atorvastatin) 20 mg
- Excipients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and others.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, persistent elevations of transaminases, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, and in those taking other medications that may increase the risk of myopathy. Liver function tests are recommended before starting treatment and should be monitored periodically during treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
