Indications
Amikacin is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including respiratory tract infections, urinary system infections, and sepsis. This medication is effective against various strains of gram-negative bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics. It is commonly used in the treatment of infections in hospitalized patients, as well as in those with compromised immune systems. Amikacin administration should be evaluated by a healthcare professional, considering the severity of the infection and bacterial sensitivity.
Composition
Each ampoule of Amikacin 100 mg/2 ml contains: Amikacin (as amikacin sulfate) 100 mg, excipients: water for injection, sodium chloride.
Contraindications
Amikacin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amikacin or other aminoglycoside antibiotics. It should also be avoided in those with severe kidney disease, as it can worsen renal function. Its use during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully evaluated by a physician.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal function, as the medication can accumulate and increase the risk of toxicity. Likewise, in patients with neuromuscular disorders, as amikacin can aggravate muscle weakness. It is recommended to monitor plasma levels of the medication, as well as renal function tests during treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
