Indications
Trulicity (dulaglutide) is indicated as a treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, to improve glycemic control in combination with diet and exercise. This medication can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin. Trulicity acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which promotes glucose-dependent insulin secretion, reduces glucagon secretion, and decreases gastric emptying rate, contributing to the reduction of blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each Trulicity pre-filled pen contains 0.75 mg of dulaglutide in a volume of 0.5 ml.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or in those with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It is also contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dulaglutide or to any of the excipients in the formulation.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis, as the use of GLP-1 receptor agonist class drugs has been associated with cases of pancreatitis. In addition, it is recommended to monitor renal function, as abnormalities may occur in patients treated with Trulicity. Furthermore, the risk of hypoglycemia should be evaluated, especially if used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin.
Storage
Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Once in use, the pen can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C) for a maximum of 14 days.
