Indications
Trileptal is indicated for the treatment of epilepsy in adults and children over 2 years of age. It is used for monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in partial seizures, both simple and complex. Trileptal can also be used for the treatment of mood disorders in some patients, as well as for the management of trigeminal neuralgia. Oxcarbazepine acts by stabilizing the neuronal membrane and decreasing neuronal excitability, which contributes to the reduction of the frequency and severity of epileptic seizures.
Composition
Each Trileptal tablet contains 300 mg of oxcarbazepine and excipients that allow for the proper formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Trileptal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or to any component of the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other anticonvulsants, such as carbamazepine, due to possible cross-reactivity.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Trileptal to patients with a history of liver or kidney disorders, or to those receiving other medications that may affect hepatic metabolism. It is important to monitor renal function during treatment, as well as to be alert for the appearance of symptoms of depression or changes in mood. The benefit-risk ratio should be evaluated in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Storage
Store Trileptal in its original packaging at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
