Indications
Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment is indicated for the treatment of ocular infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline and polymyxin. This medication is used in the management of bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and other superficial eye infections. Its formulation combines a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, and a polypeptide that disrupts the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, contributing to its efficacy in eradicating ocular infections.
Composition
Each gram of Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment contains: 0.005 g of oxytetracycline and 10,000 units of polymyxin B. Excipients: lanolin, liquid paraffin, and solid paraffin.
Contraindications
This product is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula. Its use is not recommended for viral or fungal eye infections, or in cases of deep corneal ulcerations.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergies to tetracycline-class antibiotics. Contact lenses should be avoided during treatment. If irritation or increased ocular discharge occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
