Indications

Tenormin (Atenolol) is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure, as well as for the prophylaxis of angina pectoris. This medication works by decreasing heart rate and the force of heart contraction, which contributes to a reduction in blood pressure. It is also used in the management of certain cardiac arrhythmias and in the prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients. It is important to note that the response to treatment must be monitored by a healthcare professional, and the dose should be adjusted according to each patient's needs.

Composition

Each Tenormin tablet contains 50 mg of Atenolol as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration.

Contraindications

Tenormin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Atenolol or any of the components of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in cases of severe bradycardia, second- and third-degree atrioventricular block, and in patients with decompensated heart failure. Special care should be taken in patients with bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

Precautions

Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is essential during treatment with Tenormin. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, as Atenolol may mask the signs of hypoglycemia. Likewise, it is recommended to adjust the dose in patients with moderate to severe renal insufficiency and in those who are being treated with other antihypertensives.
