Indications

Tegretol (Carbamazepine) is indicated for the treatment of various neurological conditions. It is primarily used in the management of partial and generalized epileptic seizures. It is also prescribed for the treatment of neuropathic pain and in affective disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Its anticonvulsant effect is based on reducing neuronal excitability and stabilizing neuronal membranes. It is important that the use of Tegretol be supervised by a physician, who will evaluate the need for treatment and the appropriate dose for each patient.

Composition

Each tablet contains 200 mg of Carbamazepine, as well as excipients that allow for the formulation of the medicine.

Contraindications

Tegretol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Carbamazepine or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of atrioventricular block, acute intermittent porphyria, and in those with any medical condition that may be affected by antiepileptic treatment.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Tegretol to patients with a history of liver, kidney, or hematological disease. Regular monitoring of liver and hematological function is crucial during treatment. Likewise, concomitant administration with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and certain medications that may interact with Carbamazepine, potentially altering its efficacy or increasing the risk of adverse effects, should be avoided.
