Indications
Tapazol (Thiamazole) is indicated in the treatment of hyperthyroidism, including Graves-Basedow disease and toxic multinodular goiter. This medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormones by interfering with the incorporation of iodine into thyroglobulin. It is also used in patients who require treatment prior to thyroid surgery or in those who are not candidates for surgery. The use of Thiamazole in the treatment of thyrotoxicosis is essential to control hormone levels and relieve associated symptoms, such as tachycardia, weight loss, and nervousness.
Composition
Each Tapazol tablet contains 5 mg of Thiamazole as the active ingredient. Excipients: Lactose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Tapazol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Thiamazole or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered in cases of severe liver disease, agranulocytosis, or acute intermittent porphyria. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Thiamazole to patients with a history of liver or hematological disease. Liver function and blood cell count should be monitored during treatment. Prolonged use of the medication can lead to adverse effects, so continuous evaluation by the treating physician is suggested.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
