Indications
Tapazol is indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, specifically Graves-Basedow disease and subacute thyroiditis. Its primary action focuses on inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which helps normalize thyroxine and triiodothyronine levels in the blood. It is also used in preoperative preparations for patients undergoing thyroid surgery, as well as in the treatment of thyroid storm. Regular monitoring of thyroid function during treatment is important to adjust the dose as needed.
Composition
Each Tapazol tablet contains 10 mg of thiamazole as the active ingredient. Excipients include: lactose, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and others.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to thiamazole or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver diseases or those with a history of agranulocytosis. Furthermore, its use during pregnancy and lactation should be carefully evaluated by a physician.
Precautions
It is crucial to exercise caution when administering Tapazol to patients with hematological conditions, as it can cause a decrease in the number of white blood cells. A complete blood count should be performed before and during treatment. Additionally, regular monitoring of liver function is recommended due to the risk of hepatotoxicity. In case of symptoms such as fever, sore throat, or unusual bruising, the patient should consult a doctor immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place and out of reach of children. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and sources of humidity.
