Indications
Synthroid is indicated in the treatment of hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It is used to replace or supplement thyroid hormone in the body. It is also used in the treatment of goiter and in the prevention of goiter recurrence after surgery. This medication is essential for maintaining proper hormonal balance and contributing to normal metabolic functions.
Composition
Each Synthroid tablet contains 75 mcg of Levothyroxine Sodium as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that allow for the formulation and stability of the product.
Contraindications
Synthroid is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in cases of untreated hyperthyroidism and in patients with acute adrenal diseases or pituitary insufficiency, which must be adequately treated before initiating levothyroxine therapy.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular diseases, as the use of levothyroxine can increase heart rate and cause angina or arrhythmias. It is important to monitor thyroid hormone levels and adjust the dose as needed. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting treatment.
