Indications
Synthroid 25 mcg is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. This medication is used to replace or supplement the hormone that the body does not produce in adequate amounts. It is also used in patients who have undergone partial or total thyroidectomy, and in the treatment of certain forms of goiter. Additionally, it is indicated in the management of certain types of thyroid cancer, as well as in the evaluation of thyroid function.
Composition
Each Synthroid tablet contains 25 mcg of levothyroxine sodium as the active ingredient. The formulation also includes excipients such as lactose, starch, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine sodium or any of the excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with uncontrolled heart disease or those with untreated adrenal insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, undiagnosed thyroid disease, or those with a history of coagulation disorders. Regular monitoring of hormone levels and dose adjustment as needed is important.
Storage
Store Synthroid at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
