Indications

Synthroid is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism, which is a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. This medication is used to replace or supplement the body's production of thyroid hormones. Additionally, it can be used as part of the treatment for certain types of goiters and in suppression therapy for patients with thyroid cancer, to help prevent the growth of cancer cells.

Composition

Each Synthroid tablet contains 150 mcg of levothyroxine sodium as the active ingredient. It also includes excipients such as lactose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and other compounds that facilitate the formulation and stability of the product.

Contraindications

The use of Synthroid is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine sodium or any of the excipients. It is also contraindicated in individuals with untreated thyroid diseases, such as hyperthyroidism, as well as in patients with acute myocardial infarction, untreated adrenal insufficiency, and other conditions that may be affected by an increase in basal metabolism.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Synthroid to patients with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, adrenal diseases, or those being treated with anticoagulants. Regular monitoring of blood hormone levels and dose adjustment as needed are essential. The dose may require adjustments in pregnant patients or those in situations of physical or emotional stress.

Storage

Store Synthroid at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place, protected from light and out of the reach of children.
